Prince Harry is hanging up his wings — or his helicopter blades — and taking a more grounded staff job with the army in London.
The prince will retain the rank of captain and be based at the Horse Guards at HQ London District, while embarking on his new responsibilities organizing ceremonial events for the army, according to a press release from the British Ministry of Defense.
Harry had spent over three years in training and operational services with the army’s Apache helicopter force, which sent him to Afghanistan and brought great praise from his superior officers.

Lieutenant Colonel Tom de la Rue, who commanded Prince Harry in the Army Air Corps, said in a statement:
“Captain Wales has reached the pinnacle of flying excellence as an Apache pilot, particularly in Afghanistan, and, in the process, has proved to be a real inspiration to the many Army Air Corps officers and soldiers who have come to know him so well over the last two years.”
Along with aiding to plan major spectacles such as the Trooping of the Colour and state visits, Harry will reportedly be spearheading the Warrior Games — the injured servicemen’s “Olympics” — to London, reports the Evening Standard.

Last December, Harry embarked on an ambitious expedition to Antarctica with a group of injured servicemen in an attempt to do a 200-mile trek to the South Pole to raise awareness for the Walking with the Wounded charity.
He was joined on the icy trek — where temperatures reached -49 F — by True Blood star Alexander Skarsgard and actor Dominic West from The Wire.
Harry is not the only royal with a new job. On Thursday, it was revealed that his cousin, Princess Beatrice is interning at Sony Pictures Television in London.
