MOSCOW — Ruslan Tatarintsev, distribution head of director-producer Timur Bekmambetov‘s Bazelevs, has left the Russian film company, prompting it to focus its distribution strategy on its own releases.
Tatarintsev, who had been in charge of marketing and distribution since 2010, will “pursue his own projects,” the company said.
“I thank [Tatarintsev] for his efforts aimed at the creation of an infrastructure and a professional team for Bazelevs Distribution over the last few years,” Bekmambetov (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Wanted) said in a statement.
During his stint at Bazelevs, Tatarintsev was involved in the releases of 18 movies, including the Bazelevs-produced top-grossing franchise Yolki (Christmas Trees), whose third installment is this past holiday season’s box office champion in the country.
The departure of Tatarintsev, who joined Bazelevs after holding a similar position at Universal’s Russian office, is to bring about a revision of Bazelevs’ distribution plans. The company said it is taking Hayao Miyazaki‘s Kaze tachinu and Sheng Ding‘s Jing Cha Gu Shi 2013 off its release schedule, focusing on its own releases instead.
“Over the next few years, Bazelevs plans to produce more movies, to support quality local projects and to focus on unconventional promotion methods,” Bekmambetov said.
Tatarintsev’s replacement is expected to be announced shortly.
