Asgard met Earth on Monday night when the premiere of Disney and Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World landed in Hollywood.
Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston and more of the cast were joined by several other actors from the Marvel family, including the cast of ABC’s Agents of SHIELD.
As the Marvel universe expands to include stand-alone superhero films, the ensemble Avengers franchise and now the TV show, actors joining the studio’s properties have one thing in common: top secrecy. Marvel’s infamous secrecy was a lively topic of conversation at the premiere at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood on Monday night.

“I still feel like I can’t tell you anything, and the film’s coming out in four days,” Hiddleston jokingly told The Hollywood Reporter.
Hiddleston, who returns to play Thor’s mischievous brother Loki, added that he sees the benefits of Marvel’s tight-lipped practices. “I think it’s good. I love going to the cinema and being surprised by things, and so I think it’s good that people don’t know,” he said.
“We made this film a year ago in London, and you get so excited about things that are happening, but you can’t tell a soul, and that’s hard, sometimes,” he added.
Along with several special guests, including Jeremy Renner, who starred as Hawkeye in The Avengers, and Hemsworth’s brother Liam, who stars in The Hunger Games, Kat Dennings walked the carpet in a lacy red Naeem Khan dress. Dennings, who plays Jane Foster’s (Natalie Portman) intern Darcy Lewis, revealed that even her inner circle wasn’t aware of the whole story as it unfolds in The Dark World.
“My agents, who are here tonight, still haven’t read the script or seen the movie,” she told THR. “That’s how good at I am at keeping a secret.”
Newcomers to the franchise Zachary Levi, who plays Fandral, a member of the Warriors Three, and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, who plays the villain Algrim (and the transformed Kurse), also had their own unique experiences with Marvel’s need for confidentiality.

“I didn’t really know much about it until I was doing it,” said Levi of his role. “But I trust in the creative team and forces and powers at Marvel. I think they make really incredible, giant, epic movies. So when they say, ‘Hey we want you to go do that,’ I think you say, ‘OK, I’d like to do that.’ “
As for Akinnuoye-Agbaje, he told THR he had some friends in black suits ensuring his — and the story’s — safety during shooting. “I had bodyguards everywhere I went, from the trailer to the set, from my house to the ADR session,” he told THR. “I feel very lonely now that the movie’s over.”
Akinnuoye-Agbaje, who worked with director Alan Taylor on another project, revealed that he didn’t even know who he was playing until just weeks before the shoot.
One actor who should be very accustomed to Marvel’s secretive ways is the star of Agents of SHIELD, Clark Gregg, who attended the premiere on Monday night.
Gregg told THR that he’s excited for the upcoming episodes of ABC’s show so that people “can see the grander plans.”
The actor, who said they’re about to begin shooting the 11th episode of the season, revealed that he’s recently gotten more information on the show’s most pressing secret — how his character, Agent Coulson, survived a deadly blow from Hiddleston’s Loki in The Avengers.
“I’m not disappointed. Joss [Whedon] gave me a kind of vague answer, and it was as complex and dark as you might expect from him,” he says.
Thor: The Dark World opens in the U.S. on Nov. 8.
