Aaron Eckhart has signed on for psychological thriller Fade Out, about a screenwriter whose intense paranoia and hallucinations cause fiction and reality to blur.
Robert Salerno — a veteran producer whose credits include A Single Man and Arbitrage — will direct the film, which marks his feature directorial debut. He’ll direct from an original screenplay by Pulitzer Prize-winner Michael Cristofer.
The Solution Entertainment Group will shop the project to foreign buyers at the American Film Market, which gets under way on Wednesday in Los Angeles. Anthony Bregman (Enough Said, Can A Song Save Your Life?) and Naomi Despres (Kill the Messenger, High Crimes) are producing. The Solution’s Lisa Wilson and Myles Nestel are executive producing alongside John Penotti and Tim Williams.
In the film, Eckhart’s character is recovering from a nervous breakdown and is living in a beautiful beach villa with his glamorous wife, when he begins writing a screenplay about a jealous husband who murders his unfaithful wife. As real life begins to mirror events in the screenplay, he becomes a suspect in his own wife’s disappearance and must outrun the police as he pieces together the puzzle.
Salerno begins shooting in mid-February in Puerto Rico.
“Fade Out is as irresistible as a potent Caribbean cocktail: a twisted mind-bending thriller set in a sun-soaked beach town — from a smart script full of surprising twists, and with true artists in front of and behind the camera,” said Bregman.
“Aaron is a versatile actor who has shown immense range across his performances and is the perfect actor to bring the character to life in this Hitchcockian thriller. We’re delighted to be partnering with Bob Salerno on his directorial debut and debuting the project at AFM,” added Wilson and Nestel.
Eckhart was last seen in Olympus Has Fallen and is currently shooting Incarnate, from producer Jason Blum. He’ll next be in theaters in I, Frankenstein. He’s repped by CAA and Hirsch Wallerstein Hayum Matlof + Fishman.
