The Arcade Fire’s fourth studio album will be released Oct. 29, the band has revealed in a Twitter post Friday. The group replied to a fan’s tweet of “you’re my favorite” on Friday by demurely writing, “Thanks. Our new album will be out October 29th.”
An image accompanying the Twitter post shows what appears to be a metallic globe bursting into flames as the Canadian indie rockers look particularly sad and very red.

The as-yet-untitled album was given a tentative release date last fall by drummer Jeremy Gara, who told Ottowa radio station CKCU in October, “We are under no pressure from record labels or management or whatever to do anything on any sort of schedule. We’re just working. We have no deadlines. It’s kind of coming along.” Two months later, the group previewed new material at a secret show for about 100 people at Breakglass Studios in Montreal under the pseudonym Les Identiks.
LCD Soundsystem mastermind James Murphy worked on the project as a producer, as did longtime collaborator (and Mumford & Sons producer) Markus Dravs. The album will be Arcade Fire’s first release since husband-wife duo Win Butler and Regine Chassagne welcomed a baby boy this year.
The Suburbs, Arcade Fire’s third album, earned the Grammy for album of the year in February 2011 and has sold 765,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The collective toured extensively behind the breakout album and headlined such festivals as Coachella and Bonnaroo.
