‘OVER’ THE TOP: After yielding pole position, Mandisa’s current single, “Overcomer,” overcomes Switchfoot’s “Who We Are” (which plunges 1-33 in its second week on the chart) and returns to No. 1 on Billboard’s Christian Digital Songs as well as Christian/Gospel Digital Songs, giving the season five finalist an 11th week in first place on both lists.
That brings her even closer to breaking the record for the longest-running No. 1 of 2013 on these two tallies. The current title-holder is Britt Nicole, whose “Gold” reigned on both of these Christian charts for 13 weeks.
“Overcomer” has spent time at No. 1 on three different Billboard charts: Christian Digital Songs, Christian/Gospel Digital Songs and Christian Songs and the album was No. 1 on the Top Christian Albums chart.
A previous Mandisa single is also doing well on Christian Digital Songs, even though it is in its 91st week on the chart — which means it is approaching the two-year mark as a hit song. “Good Morning,” which features tobyMac, rebounds 16-14.

BACK TO THE BEGINNING: Eleven years ago this week, the No. 1 song on the Hot 100 was Kelly Clarkson’s “A Moment Like This,” the very first chart-topper for an American Idol contestant. In October 2002, no one could have guessed that the popular TV series would rack up 407 Billboard No. 1s (its current total), or that the winners of every subsequent season would follow Clarkson onto the charts or that the series would still be producing stars for 12 years, with more to come.
“A Moment Like This” made chart history when it captured the top spot on the Hot 100, by leaping 52-1. That broke a 38-year-old record held by the Beatles. Their single “Can’t Buy Me Love” rocketed 27-1 on the chart dated April 4, 1964, and no one had bested that until Clarkson’s debut single became the leader of the pack.
Eventually other singles beat the 52-1 leap, but then Clarkson took the title back when “My Life Would Suck Without You” flew 97-1 the week of Feb. 7, 2009.
STORY: ‘American Idol’ Winner Candice Glover’s Debut Album Delayed
BITS AND PIECES: Phillip Phillips’s “Gone, Gone, Gone” moves back up the Rock Digital Songs chart with a jump of 10-8, the same week his debut album, The World From the Side of the Moon, is certified platinum by the RIAA… Daughtry’s brand-new single “Waiting for Superman” debuts on the Adult Top 40 Audience chart at No. 32… Scotty McCreery’s latest single, “See You Tonight,” is still moving up on the Country Airplay survey, making a 34-33 move this week… On that same chart, Kellie Pickler’s latest, “Little Bit Gypsy,” edges up 58-57, changing places with “Wherever Love Goes” by Kristy Lee Cook and Randy Houser, which slides 57-58. However, Cook’s single earns a bullet for increased airplay over last week.
