Young Actors Stage presents The Wizard of Oz [Giveaway]

Oz_11x17-3ed

A very talented group of young performers will be hitting the stage this weekend! Follow them down the Yellow Brick Road in this timeless classic.

Dorothy and her little dog Toto are on the run from the evil Miss Gulch. Suddenly, a tornado whisks them away from Kansas to the fantastic world of Oz where Dorothy and Toto must outwit the Wicked Witch with the help of her friends Scarecrow, Tinman, and the Cowardly Lion. Will the powerful Wizard help Dorothy and Toto return home, or does the Wicked Witch have the flying monkeys to stop her?

Young Actors Stage presents youth ages 6-16 in The Wizard of Oz this Friday, December 20 – Sunday, December 22 at the 24th Street Theatre. Seeing other kids singing and dancing their hearts out is a fantastic way to inspire your kids and develop their appreciation for the arts!

The Young Performer’s Edition features all of the original songs with music and lyrics of the MGM motion picture score, including “Over The Rainbow”, “If I Only Had a Brain”, “Jitterbug”, and “If I Were King of the Forest.” It lasts approximately 90 minutes which is the perfect length for your young viewers.

I am such a fan of Young Actors Stage, a musical theatre program for children directed by the fabulous Liorah Singerman! As the arts have been disappearing from our schools, Liorah had a fabulous idea to take her skills into Sacramento elementary schools in the form of workshops. She created this theatre company to bring a love and appreciation of the performing arts to students and the community. The aim of Young Actors Stage is not only to create a foundation for singing, dancing, acting and performing but also to nurture teamwork, concentration, imagination, and confidence that have been proven to carry over into all areas of academic learning.

I have seen what Liorah can do first-hand as my daughter participated in three previous Young Actors Stage productions and it has been most exciting for me to see her grow both in confidence and a love for theatre! She will be a part of this production by playing the part of the Mayor of Munchkinland! It is also very impressive to see a large group of kids that have committed to give the show their all from start to finish. The combination of hard working kids and staff always culminates in high energy, entertaining performances. It truly warms my heart!

Here’s a little clip of the cast as they rehearse “The Merry Old Land of Oz”!

My love for exploring and creating experiences with my three kids led to the founding of SacramentoSidetracks.com in 2009. I realized that Sacramento has so much to offer and I was excited to share my findings with other parents. Besides simply having fun, these are the other positive side effects of taking my kids on outings that I’ve discovered: we have quality time together away from the distractions at home, we cultivate our curiosity, learn new things, conversations are triggered by what we see and do, we connect and bond as a family, and we create new memories. Ready to get sidetracked, too? Let me be your guide!
