SACRAMENTO-

That Mark Anthony Scott died in the Sacramento County Jail in January of 2011 isn’t in question. The question under investigation for the last two years is did his jailors know he was about to die?

Other inmates told us it was clear to them.

“This man was bleeding. He was clearly in distress, and he was denied medical attention,” said Seamus Strouther in January of 2011. He was an inmate in a cell near Scott’s at the time of Scott’s death.

According to reports and witnesses, Mark Anthony Scott and his cell mate both rang their intercom a number of times to ask correction officers for help, but were told they were being nuisances.

Scott was never treated.

Now, FOX40 has obtained disturbing photos from his cell on the day Mark Anthony Scott died. It is perhaps difficult to believe, but we are only including the least graphic of those images in this story- a blood splattered bed, and a brown bag soaked through with blood that Scott had been vomiting into it.

It’s hard for his family to believe that jail staff couldn’t see Scott was in trouble.

“It looked like a slaughterhouse,” Scott’s sister told us. “He can’t come back. I can never talk to him again. He was my big brother.”

Scott’s family is suing Sacramento County over his death. They’ve also called for an internal affairs investigation- something their attorney says hasn’t happened.

“As far as I know all the correctional and medical personnel involved are still employed there,” said Stewart Katz, the attorney representing Scott’s family.

Mark Anthony Scott would have turned 50 this year. He was locked-up on a probation violation.
