Major Lazer is ready to take its signature bashment-meets-EDM aesthetic from the dance hall to the small screen. Thanks to FXX’s new Animation Domination lineup, Diplo, Jillionaire and Walshy Fire are getting their own animated series, appropriately called Major Lazer.
“It’s been almost five years in the making,” Diplo tells Billboard, “but it was worth it to have such a succinct TV show for our music fans and cartoon fans alike.” The show, which centers on an eponymous superhero in a future, dystopian Jamaica, features the voice of recent Oscar winner J.K. Simmons, as well as guest appearances from Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig, Charli XCX, Riff Raff, Andy Samberg and Aziz Ansari.

In the sneak peek below, get a taste of what Major Lazer will be like, as well as Major Lazer’s original music and the Jamaican culture that inspired the show. Diplo speaks about why Jamaica has inspired him and how the series is perfect for “any fans of hip-hop, electronic music or ’80s cartoons and the culture that gave birth to [Major Lazer’s] musical landscape.” More to the point: “It’s like being high,” according to Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, the voice of Major Lazer, the show’s eponymous superhero.
Major Lazer premieres Thursday, April 16, at midnight, as part of Animation Domination on FXX.
