PLACER COUNTY—

Prosecutors have officially filed murder charges against the woman suspected of killing her own mother, the Placer County District Attorney announced Friday.

Ana Maria Bejenariu, 32, also faces an enhancement charge of using a deadly weapon in the murder. Deputies arrested Bejenariu Wednesday after her mother, 61-year-old Maria Bejenariu, was found stabbed. Maria later died at the Sutter Roseville Medical Center.

The stabbing happened at Maria’s home in Sheridan, a small community about 21 miles north of Rocklin. Ana Maria is said to be from Sacramento.

Family who spoke to FOX40 on Thursday said that Ana Maria had been in and out of mental facilities for years. She is said to suffer from schizophrenia.

Ana Maria will remain in custody at Placer County Jail and is in eligible for bail.
