Warner Music was previously licensed here via EMI/Virgin Music India. With Warner’s recent acquisition of Parlophone Label Group in July, the combined catalog is one of the largest globally and encompasses a roster of some of the world’s most celebrated and popular artists and recordings.
“We are delighted to represent Warner’s music catalog for the Indian and SAARC market,” said Denis Handlin, Sony Music chairman and CEO, who is also Australia & New Zealand and Asia president. “This is one of the fastest growing and most exciting music markets in the world, and India in particular has huge digital market opportunities. We have great plans to ensure that Warner Music’s remarkable catalog reaches out to the vast array of existing and emerging music fans in that region.”
“We are very excited with this opportunity and are committed to aggressively push the Warner catalog and new releases,” added ShridharSubramaniam, Sony Music president India and Middle East. “Through the combined strength of the two companies’ music, we are well positioned to grow the increasing demand for international music in India.”
“The rapid growth of the market in India creates great potential for our international roster and catalog, so it was important for us to find a partner with the market knowledge and relationships with local retailers and media partners to help unlock that,” said Stu Bergen, Warner Recorded Music president, international.
