2013 feels like a comeback year for Neil Gaiman. Not that he’s really been away in any appreciable way, but between his new novel, The Ocean at the End of the Lane, and his return to comics both with DC/Vertigo’s The Sandman: Overture and his consulting duties on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Gaiman has been a lot more present in geek culture this year than he has been for some time.
That feeling will be strengthened with the news that Gaiman is launching his first video game, created in combination with independent video game studio The Old Gentlemen and video game start-up Moonshark. In the video announcement for Wayward Manor, Gaiman described the realization that the story he’d created couldn’t be read, but was “something that you would have to experience.”

The game is set for release on PC, Mac and tablets this fall, but is available for pre-order today via the Who Haunts Neil website, which offers a series of tiered pre-order options, including posters, music and t-shirts for the most eager fans (including lunch with Gaiman himself should you be willing to pay $10,000). Consider it crowdfunding for people who think that even IndieGoGo is too mainstream, perhaps.
