Despite calls from nearly every major New York newspaper to drop out in light of his most recent sexting scandal, the mayoral candidate is insistent on not quitting the race.
In an e-mail to supporters on Wednesday, Weiner concedes, “Some powerful voices are making it clear that they still don’t want me to run.” But the politician reaffirmed his commitment to running, saying that the news is about his “past life.”

“Before and after announcing my run for mayor, I repeatedly answered every question about these mistakes,” Weiner wrote. “I was clear that these relationships took place over an extended period of time with more than one person. I regret not saying explicitly when these exchanges happened. But the bottom line is that the ‘news’ today is about my past life.”
The new scandal about the former congressman was uncovered by gossip website The Dirty. The digital relationship between Weiner and an unnamed woman allegedly occurred in July 2012, a year after he had already resigned from office after admitting to sending similar messages to other women.
“Some people may find my personal life reason not to listen to me,” Weiner wrote in the e-mail to campaign supporters Wednesday. “I completely understand that some may not ever even consider voting for me. But I’m going to keep trying to bring them around and earn their support. This fight is too important to give up because I’ve had embarrassing personal things become public.”
The e-mail ends: “New Yorkers don’t quit, and I’ll never quit on you.”
