DJ Earworm (aka Jordan Roseman) has graced the Internet with his annual mashup of 2013’s best musical moments.
The five-and-a-half-minute music video — the seventh in his “United State of Pop” series and entitled “Living the Fantasy” after the closing line of Lorde‘s “Royals” — highlights 25 of the year’s top tracks according to Billboard’s Hot 100 singles charts.

But the collaged composition is not simply a selection of song snippets; instead, the piece puts the hits in conversation with each other, in multiple ways. The line from Avicii‘s “Wake Me Up” that goes, “They tell me I’m too young to understand” is followed by “Oh, too young, too dumb to realize,” from “When I Was Your Man” by Bruno Mars. While Florida Georgia Line sings the chorus of their driving hit “Cruise,” Taylor Swift is shown waving her hand out of a convertible from her “I Knew You Were Trouble” video.
Roseman also combines the visually similar elements of artists’ music videos, such as in the opening sequence of water-related shots featuring Rihanna, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Justin Timberlake and P!nk, among others, or the smoke-filled shots of Jay Z, Robin Thicke and Katy Perry.
This year’s mashup also includes songs from Lady Gaga, OneRepublic, Miley Cyrus, Imagine Dragons, Swedish House Mafia, Daft Punk, Eminem, Capital Cities, Pharrell Williams, Britney Spears and will.i.am. After less than a day online, the video has already collected more than 360,000 views on YouTube — well on its way to the multimillions, where his other uploads currently stand.
