The Real, a new daily talk show launching in September 2014, has now been sold to stations reaching 70 percent of all American TV homes, it was announced Monday by Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution president Ken Werner and executive vp/general sales manager Rick Meril.
The show, hosted by Tamar Braxton, Loni Love, Adrienne Bailon, Jeannie Mai and Tamera Mowry-Housley, had a successful test run on six Fox stations over the past summer, and was previously licensed to air on all Fox-owned stations. Now Warner Bros. has added stations in other markets owned by stations groups including COX, Sinclair, Gannett, Local TV, Meredith, Raycom, Media General, Gray, Sunbeam, Griffin and Schurz.
“Our traditional station partners have joined the Fox Stations in embracing all of the excitement that is The Real,” said Werner. “This year, more so than in most, there are limited opportunities for new shows and we are thrilled stations have selected The Real as their choice.”
The Real was a dark-horse candidate for national TV syndication before the summer test, but it showed a 50 percent improvement over the same time periods during May sweeps among women 18-to-49. The show is seen as a way to draw in hard-to-reach younger viewers and a more ethnically diverse audience.
The Real is being produced in Los Angeles by Warner Bros. Telepictures and is being distributed by Warner Bros. Domestic Television.
