The Charles S. Swartz Endowed Chair in Entertainment Technology at USC’s School of Cinematic Arts was dedicated last week. Writer/director Stephanie Rothman, wife of the late Charles Swartz, donated the chair. Her husband is perhaps best known for his extensive contributions to the industry’s transition to digital cinema. That included serving as CEO of USC’s Entertainment Technology Center and editing the textbook Understanding Digital Cinema. Richard Weinberg, research associate professor at SCA, was installed as the first holder of this chair. Pictured above at the dedication are (from left) Dean Elizabeth M. Daley, Weinberg and Rothman.
