ABC’s Kevin Hart comedy has found its leading man.
Weeds alum Romany Malco has been tapped to star in the semi-autobiographical comedy based on Hart’s life and stand-up act, lifting the cast contingency on the pilot, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The multicamera comedy takes a candid look at the postdivorce life of a couple trying to forge a friendship for the sake of their kids, despite their differences.

Malco will star as Derek, the fit, energetic and impulsive exercise salesman who is recently divorced from his wife, Lorraine, but must still deal with her ?as they share custody of their kids. He tries to do what’s best for his family but often finds himself in sticky situations.
Hart and former Community EPs Neil Goldman and Garrett Donovan will pen the script and executive produce the 20th Century Fox Television half-hour. 3 Arts’ Dave Becky is also on board to exec produce. Hart is expected to have a recurring role if the pilot moves to series.
For Malco, the casting marks a reunion with Hart. The two have a relationship dating back to Steve Carell starrer The 40-Year-Old Virgin and co-starred in the Sony/Screen Gems feature Think Like a Man and its sequel, which is due in June. Malco also guest starred in two episodes of Hart’s BET reality parody series Real Husbands of Hollywood.
Malco, repped by the Kohner Agency, Principato-Young and Ziffren Brittenham, also had a voice role in FX’s Unsupervised and ABC’s No Ordinary Family.
