The Hunger Games: Catching Fire isn’t opening in theaters in the U.S. until Friday, but the cast already is hard at work on the franchise’s next film, Mockingjay.
Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth all will return for Lionsgate’s adaptation of Suzanne Collins‘ third book, which is being split up into two films.
“I cried when I read the third script, I really did,” Lawrence told THR during an interview for Catching Fire. “It was heartbreaking.”

Without giving too much away for those who have not read the books, events in Catching Fire lead to Katniss (Lawrence) and Peeta (Hutcherson), the victors from District 12, being separated.
Lawrence said that it’s been tough to be apart from Hutcherson after working so closely in the first two films. She even called up her co-star crying after she read the third script.
“Josh just makes everything so wonderful,” she said to THR before turning to her co-star and adding, “I miss you a lot.”
Hutcherson told THR that he has yet to spend much time on set shooting the next film.

The promotional tour for Catching Fire wraps up when the film hits theaters on Friday, and director Francis Lawrence and the cast will resume shooting Mockingjay after Thanksgiving, on Dec. 1.
“They each sort of feel totally different because the stories change so much and the emotional trajectories are so different,” says director Lawrence of shooting the second and third films in the franchise.
Mockingjay will be broken up into two films, with Part 1 opening in theaters on Nov. 21, 2014, and Part 2 on Nov. 20, 2015.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire opens in theaters in the U.S. on Nov. 22.
