Doctor Who alum John Simm will star in BBC America‘s new original drama The Intruders.
Described as a contemporary paranormal drama, The Intruders is set in the moody Pacific Northwest, where seemingly unrelated events start happening. Multiple storylines begin to interweave to reveal a conspiracy that will change the understanding of human nature.
STORY: BBC America on the Rise With ‘Orphan Black,’ Standout Dramas
Simm will play Jack Whelan, a Los Angeles cop turned writer who has escaped a dark, violent past for a seemingly quiet life with his wife, Amy. When she goes missing, Jack starts an investigation that forces him to confront the sins of his past.
The casting news marks Simm’s return to BBC America, where he previously starred in Life on Mars, State of Play and Doctor Who.
Written and executive produced by Glen Morgan and based on a novel of the same name by Michael Marshall Smith, the thriller centers on a secret society devoted to pursuing immortality by seeking refuge in the bodies of others.
BBC America greenlighted the series in October.
The Intruders joins a slate that includes original series Orphan Black, Fleming: The Man Who Would Be Bond, Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, The Game, In the Flesh, Atlantis and Doctor Who.
