MOSCOW – IMAX has reported that its revenues in Russia and the countries comprising the Commonwealth of Independent States nearly doubled in this year’s second quarter, year-on-year.
The 2013 Q2 revenue figure was $6.9 million this year, a 96 percent increase from the April-June period of 2012, the company reported.
Meanwhile, the number of IMAX screens in the region increased from 14 to 38 over the past year. Last month, the company announced a deal with the Russian exhibitor chain Kinomir to open a 350-seat IMAX cinema at an eight-screen multiplex theater in the Siberian city of Barnaul in 2014.
This year’s main IMAX release in Russia and the CIS states is to be Fyodor Bondarchuk’s $30-million World War II epic Stalingrad. The first Russian film to be made in compliance with the IMAX 3G format is to open at IMAX theaters this October.
