SACRAMENTO—

After computer system problems delayed the disbursement of unemployment benefits, the California Employment Development Department says they’ve caught up.

According to a Wednesday media release from EDD, they’ve paid out about $35 million in unemployment insurance still backloged. The department fell behind back on Labor Day weekend after the new computer system they switched to had trouble with some applications.

Technicians had to enter the information by hand at one point. Wednesday, the EDD notes the system is now fully functional.

Since Labor Day weekend, the EDD has processed about 1.4 million claims – totaling about $715 million in payments.
