Morgan’s Lobster Shack in Truckee to reopen this month

We enjoyed eating at Morgan’s Lobster Shack in Truckee when it opened in late June. The restaurant, run by Shawn and Heather Whitney, offered fresh Maine lobster, fish and seafood dishes.

Menu items included “wicked fresh” fish (halibut, salmon, scallops and shrimp) and chips, lobster rolls, lobster and grilled cheese sandwiches. We enjoyed lunches on the patio and “to go.”

Then, on August 2, a kitchen fire engulfed the building and caused extensive damage, closing the restaurant.

Now the Lobster Shack is expected to reopen this week. About $10,000 was raised to help reopen the restaurant. “Just like new but better,” the owners said.

It comes amid a “boomlet” in food services in Truckee, with the opening of Spice restaurant and Mountain Valley Meats.
