Valiant Entertainment hits its first major anniversary milestone later this year with X-O Manowar #25, and the publisher aims to celebrate with an oversized issue that looks at the origins of the character while also launching Valiant’s big summer 2014 event storyline.
“When X-O Manowar #1, by Robert Venditti and Cary Nord, hit shelves in 2012, it didn’t just mark the return of one of the greatest characters in comics — it also marked the return of Valiant,” said the publisher’s executive editor, Warren Simons. “Now, with our biggest story yet — Armor Hunters — just over the horizon, X-O Manowar #25 is the perfect opportunity to celebrate the incredible work that Robert, Cary, Lee Garbett, Trevor Hairsine, Stefano Gaudiano, Jelena Kevic-Djurdjevic and Diego Bernard have accomplished.”

The 48-page issue will feature Venditti and Before Watchmen: Comedian artist J.G. Jones collaborate on a retelling of the character’s origins, accompanied by “part zero” of the Armor Hunters storyline, again written by Venditti with art by Bernard. Valiant also teases additional stories in the issue from Peter Milligan, indie cartoonist Rafer Roberts and Bryan Hitch, among others. Hitch will also be one of the artists providing cover artwork for the issue.
“X-O Manowar #1 was the first issue of a monthly comic book series that I’d ever written, so I didn’t know what to expect,” Venditti said. “I hoped I’d at least make it a year, and I really hoped I’d make it two. So to be at #25 now and to be planning far beyond, I feel very fortunate.”
X-O Manowar #25 will be released in May.
