How Do Gas Prices Stack Up to other Substances?

Gas prices have slowly crept higher during the holiday season in the Sacramento area; Monday the average gallon of gas in the Capital City was $3.53, 23 cents higher than the national average.

According to GasBuddy.com, the price for a gallon of gas has increase 0.9 cents in the last week, and is 9.1 cents higher than a month ago. Meanwhile, the national average for a gallon of gas has increased 5.7 cents in the last month.

The price of gas in Sacramento on Monday is 5.4 cents higher than a year ago, the national average is 3.3 cents higher than a year ago.

According to GasBuddy.com, January and February usually have the weakest demand for gasoline during the year. With the deep freeze hitting much of the Midwest and East Coast, the national price per gallon could hold steady as demand stays low.
