Rigor Mortis has been sold previously to Orange Sky Golden Harvest Films for Hong Kong, Cinema de Manon for Korea, and Scorpio East for Singapore, Malaysia, and Brunei.
Fortissimo chairman Michael J. Werner said of the deal with Catchplay, Inc., the leading indie distributor in Taiwan, “Catchplay has been pursuing Rigor Mortis ever since they saw sneak footage at Hong Kong Filmart earlier this year. Although there was a bidding war for the film, their strength in the marketplace and passion for the film won us over.”
Catchplay had previously distributed Fortissimo’s Dream Home, starring Josie Ho, and the Oscar-nominated Winter’s Bone, starring Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence, in Taiwan.
A reinterpretation of the popular Hong Kong Chinese vampire genre in the 1970s and 1980s starring genre veteran Chin Siu-ho, Rigor Mortis tells the story of an acting has-been’s encounter with the supernatural in a housing estate occupied by an exorcist, a traumatized housewife, and an elderly woman who has an empty coffin hanging in her apartment.
