DreamWorks Animation chief and Democratic super donor Jeffrey Katzenberg and his political strategist Andy Spahn are spending at least part of the holiday season working their bottomless Rolodexes to pull together another fundraiser aimed at defeating the Senate Republicans’ minority leader, Mitch McConnell.
Katzenberg and his wife, Marilyn, will be prominent among the cohosts when Kentucky’s Democratic senatorial candidate, Alison Lundergan Grimes returns to Los Angeles for a Jan. 13 event at the home of CAA managing partner and head of television Steve Lafferty and his wife, Nikki, an animal protection activist.

Grimes, whose deep home state roots have made her a formidable candidate, is contesting the U.S. Senate seat currently held by McConnell, who political strategists in both parties rate as one of the most vulnerable of the GOP incumbents up for reelection in 2014.
Katzenberg, who raised $1 million for Grimes during his first L.A. fundraising visit last September, has made McConnell’s defeat his number one political priority for the upcoming midterm elections.
McConnell also faces a tough primary challenge from tea party activists within his own party, with several of the more conservative super PAC’s pouring in money to oppose him.
Cohosts for Grimes’ 7 pm evening event also include Rebecca and Troy Carter, Gail Currey, Ellen and Tom Hoberman, Sonya and Mike Rosenfield, Nancy Stephens and Rick Rosenthal, Todd Sargent, Amanda and Greg Silverman, Jennifer Perry and Spahn, Cathy and Len Unger and Michael Lombardo and Sonny Ward.
