STOCKTON—

Investigators have reclassified the death of Karen Sterzl as a homicide, Stockton Police announced Tuesday.

Sterzl went missing back on 1990. She had been on a boat along the downtown waterfront in Stockton.

An anonymous tip nearly 23 years later led authorities to the home of Billie Faulkner, who had been living with Sterzl up until her disappearance. Back on May 23, investigators dug up the backyard of Faulkner’s home near Park Avenue and W. Wetmore Street in Manteca and found Sterzl’s remains.

The autopsy results on Sterzl reveal that she was strangled to death, investigators say.

Faulkner died back in July 2012.
