Netflix has released the first extended look at the second season of House of Cards, showing Kevin Spacey‘s Frank Underwood facing resistance in his new role as vice president while Kate Mara‘s Zoe Barnes inches closer to the truth about season one’s murder.
After 30 seconds of clips from the first season, viewers see Underwood assuming his new position as vice president, while he says in a voiceover, “The road to power is paved with hypocrisy and casualties. I need to prove what the vice president is capable of.”
Meanwhile, Barnes meets up with Underwood in the subway and tells him, “I need to know that I wasn’t a part of someone’s … murder.” Later she’s urged to keep following the story and a clip from a Chris Matthews interview teases something that “goes all the way to the White House,” suggesting that the truth about what Underwood’s done may be exposed.

The rapid succession of clips reveals more plotting, threats and fear as Underwood faces opposition from President Walker, who tells him “I told you to stop back-channeling.”
Underwood also appears to face retaliation from Raymond Tusk and some sort of danger from former associate Remy Danton.
The trailer ends with Underwood saying, “and the butchery begins.”
