SACRAMENTO-

A red and white boat along the American River is one of nearly 20 partially sunken boats in the Sacramento region, according to authorities.

The park ranger confirmed to FOX40 that one boat near Discovery Park sank Friday. Since then, no one has claimed it.

“Somebody is going to be responsible for getting that boat out of the water,” Andrew Hughan with the Department of Fish and Wildlife told FOX40.

Hughan also confirmed the boat the would be a much bigger concern to his department if fuel was leaking from the boat.

“That could be a danger to wildlife,” he said.

But the DFW could not find any fuel leakage Monday.

The drowning accident rescue team told FOX40 they checked the boat the day it sank. However, because they didn’t find anyone inside, salvaging it wasn’t a concern for them.

Sacramento Police said that the red and white boat is partially in their jurisdiction and it will be salvaged once the proper funding comes in, which could take up to a year.

Boat salvaging companies estimated removing the boat could cost anywhere from $12,000 to $15,000.
