Seth Meyers may have said goodbye to Saturday Night Live, but he’s not done with his castmates.
The former head writer, who will start his new gig as host of Late Night on Feb. 24, has recruited a few more SNL veterans – Amy Poehler, Will Forte, Maya Rudolph and Kate McKinnon— for the second season of his Hulu animated comedy, The Awesomes.

Hulu renewed the long-gestating series, co-created by Meyers and Late Night producer Mike Shoemaker, for another 10 episodes back in September, noting at that time that the superhero entry was regularly a top 10 show on the service, and among the top five animated shows on offer. Though the streaming service has yet to settle on a premiere date, season two is being eyed for a summer run.
The comedy tells the origin story of a superhero clan, The Awesomes, that is forced to reform from the ground up after the departure of their leader inspires all the other members to go their separate ways. Prock, voiced by Meyers, the former leader’s son and the group’s only holdover, assembles a team of leftover superheroes to round out the team. The show’s second season is expected to incorporate new supervillains and superheroes, with the team taking on new challenges — which could include an unexpected love triangle — under the leadership of Professor Doctor Awesome (Prock).
Forte will be voicing the role of Malocchio Jr., the son of season one archvillain Dr. Malocchio (Bill Hader) and an accountant with, allegedly, no interest in a life of villainy. For their part, Rudolph is set to play Lady Malocchio, the wife of Dr. Malocchio, while McKinnon has been tapped for the role of Lola Gold, a TV producer who wants to build a reality show around the lives of the Awesomes; whether she has ulterior motives is an open question.

Poehler, who recently returned to SNL for Meyers’ final show, is in as Jaclyn Stone, a hard-edged prosecutor who faces off against Prock as she tries Perfect Man (voiced by Seth Meyers’ younger brother Josh Meyers) for conspiring with Dr. Malocchio. Following the trial, sparks fly between Stone and Prock, creating a triangle with Hotwire (Rashida Jones), whom Prock believes was killed at the end of last season.
Many of Meyers and Shoemaker’s friends will be back to voice the coterie of characters for season two. The show’s first season included Muscleman (voiced by Ike Barinholtz), Frantic (Taran Killam), their secretary Concierge (Emily Spivey), the evil Dr. Malocchio (Hader), Hotwire (Jones) and Impresario (Kenan Thompson).
