Argo won a pair of trophies, while Pacific Rim and Life of Pi collected one apiece, in the feature categories at the 8th annual Hollywood Post Alliance (HPA) Awards.
Also Thursday night at the Skirball Cultural Center, Game of Thrones was the big winner in television, collecting awards for outstanding sound and visual effects.
As the eligibility period is from September 2012 to September 2013, the honorees were a combination of some of last year’s Oscar winners and next season’s hopefuls (sans this Fall’s releases).

A team from Industrial Light and Magic was honored for outstanding feature visual effects for Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim.
Meanwhile colorist David Cole won the HPA Award for outstanding feature color grading on Life of Pi.
The work on Argo topped the categories of outstanding sound and outstanding editing, with the latter going to Oscar winner William Goldenberg.
During the ceremony, Goldenberg also presented HPA’s Charles S. Swartz Award for outstanding contributions in the field of postproduction to Avid.
The company led the revolution in “nonlinear” editing 25 years ago and since then has expanded into areas including audio postproduction and broadcasting. CEO Louis Hernandez Jr. accepted the award on behalf of the company.
HPA recognized Peter Jackson’s Park Road Post Production with the HPA Judges Award for Creativity and Innovation in Post Production. The company will be recognized for the development of its feature workflow enabling high frame rate (48 frames per second) stereoscopic 3D, which was used for the first time to make Jackson’s The Hobbit.

During the ceremony, four technologies received awards for engineering excellence. They are DTS’s MDA (multidimensional audio); NVIDIA GRID Visual Computing Appliance; Flix from Sony Pictures Imageworks and The Foundry; and Telestream’s 16 bit 4:4:4:4 transcoding technology.
