Of all the topics they were prepared to discuss at an awards show, the members of One Direction never guessed they’d have to chat about Justin Bieber.
STORY: BRIT Awards: Arctic Monkeys, One Direction Win Two Each
BRIT Awards host James Corden took a seat at their table at London’s O2 Arena on Wednesday to give the group some face time between performances and award categories, innocently asking Liam Payne about his evening so far.
“Yes, I am having a great night,” Payne said. “This is the first time we have seen each other in about three months maybe.” Corden also asked if it’s still fun for them to win awards, after collecting so many, and Harry Styles responded that it is.
Then Corden mentioned how the band was friendly with Bieber, and asked about his recent arrest and his smoking habits. When the host asked which group member first got in touch with Bieber or visited him in jail, Niall Horan responded with a loud laugh.
Corden continued on the topic, “Did you tell him what guys do to people who look like him” in jail? “Anyone say lay off the bongs?” Though no one would answer the first two questions, Corden asked if the group had any messages for Bieber. Louis Tomlinson then spontaneously said, “Keep strong, and keep doing what you are doing.”

But Corden responded in disbelief, saying: “Don’t keep doing what you are doing! Lou, that’s the worst advice ever.”
Later in the evening, One Direction won the Global Success award for the second time, but only four members of the band were initially present to accept the accolade. Styles later ran onstage, saying, “I’m really sorry, I was having a wee, the toilets are ages away. What did we win?”
