Many believed that Cataclysm, the apocalyptic storyline currently running through Marvel Entertainment‘s Ultimate line, would bring the 14-year-old imprint to a close, but that doesn’t appear to be the case. Instead, the publisher today announced three new series that will apparently take the line in a new direction this spring.
Under the promotional banner of Ultimate Marvel NOW! — echoing the successful relaunch of the main Marvel Universe last year — Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man will get relaunched as Miles Morales: Ultimate Spider-Man, while Ultimate Comics: Ultimates becomes All-New Ultimates and a new title, Ultimate FF, replaces Ultimate Comics: X-Men as the third series in the line.

While creators Brian Michael Bendis and David Marquez are remaining with the Miles Morales Spider-Man title, Ultimates gains a new creative team in the shape of Michel Fiffe, creator of the critically-beloved Copra series, and artist Amilcar Pinna. The new Ultimate FF book — the “FF” stands for “Future Foundation” not “Fantastic Four,” by the way — will be created by Joshua Hale Fialkov and Mario Guevara.
“Once again, we’re destroying something and building something new, but there’s an end game in sight,” Marvel editor-in-chief Axel Alonso told the Associated Press about the line’s relaunch. “The long and short of it is this: The Ultimate (universe) benefits from a good, old kick in the butt.”
All three of the new series launch in April.
