Mitch Levine has been named CEO of the Provincetown Film Society, succeeding Gabby Hanna, who retired from the position last summer. In his new role, Levine also will serve as executive director of the Provincetown International Film Festival, Waters Edge Cinema at Whalers Wharf and a new Institute of Cinema Arts.
The 16th Provincetown Festival is adding two days to its schedule, expanding to a full week, and will take place from June 17-23.
Levine currently produces First Time Fest in New York and produced the first edition of the Bahamas International Film Festival in 2004.
He founded The Film Festival Group – a global consulting firm for filmmakers and the film festival community – after serving as CEO of the Palm Springs International Film Festival in 2003.
“We have every confidence that with Mitch’s extraordinary experience and business acumen, he will lead the festival and society to new heights. His scholarly knowledge of cinema, his genuine love for his fellow artists, and his deep appreciation for the historical and cultural traditions that make Provincetown such a special gathering place for artists set him apart as a true friend to the art form,” Rick McCarthy, president of the PFS board of directors said.
“Provincetown is an extraordinary community of artists and those passionate about the arts and I feel deeply welcomed there. It’s the 16th year of our organization and a tremendous foundation has been laid by my remarkable predecessor, Gabby Hanna, by an amazing and involved board of directors, by a world-class programming team and by a truly outstanding group of sponsors,” Levine said.
