‘PAPI’ CAN YOU HEAR ME?: Last week’s charts were compiled before Jennifer Lopez sang “I Luh Ya Papi” on American Idol, so this is the first week that her performance with French Montana could impact the Hot 100. And “impact” is the right word, since the single jumps from 98 to 77 on that main chart. “Papi” also travels from 28 to 19 on Pop Digital Songs and debuts at No. 78 on the Canadian Hot 100.
But “Papi” is not the only Lopez song on the Billboard charts this week. The Idol judge spends a fourth week at No. 1 on Latin Rhythm Airplay with “Adrenalina,” credited to Wisin featuring Lopez and Ricky Martin.
“Adrenalina” is registering on a number of charts. The song is No. 21 on Heatseekers, No. 3 on Latin Pop Airplay, No. 6 on Latin Digital Songs, No. 13 on Latin Streaming and No. 2 on Latin Airplay and Latin Rhythm Digital Songs.
COUNTRY COUSIN: Jo Dee Messina returns to the Billboard charts with her first album on an independent label after a long run on Curb Records. Me, released on the Dreambound imprint, debuts at No. 19 on Top Country Albums and No. 156 on The Billboard 200.
Messina is not an American Idol, of course, but she is related to one: her cousin is season 13 competitor Alex Preston. The two are close, and when Preston decided to move to Nashville, Messina suggested he could live with her in her Franklin home.
Preston stayed with his famous relative for eight months. “I knew nothing about the music industry before that, but she set me up with meetings, like with the president of BMI and all these record labels, not to plug myself but to learn and network and exchange business cards and I learned more about networking than I did in business school,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.
Messina has been staying in touch with Preston during his Idol run. “We text every day. She watches every episode and tweets to all her fans to vote for me. She’ll tell me, ‘This is what you need to work on, this is what you’re doing right.’ I want to sing one of her songs at one point and have her come to the show.”

Preston is not the first Idol finalist to be related to an artist with a successful recording career. Season five alum Paris Bennett is the granddaughter of Ann Nesby, who has charted on her own as well as with the group Sounds of Blackness.
Although he narrowly missed the top 12, placing 13th in season six, Sundance Head is the son of Roy Head, who had a No. 2 hit on the Hot 100 in 1965 with “Treat Her Right.” And in season eight, David Osmond made it to Hollywood Week. David is the son of Alan Osmond and the nephew of both Donny and Marie Osmond.
HEAT RISES: Phillip Phillips‘ new single, “Raging Fire,” debuts at No. 28 on the Triple A (Adult Album Alternative) chart. The first taste of his sophomore album is also burning up the Adult Top 40 chart, where it leaps from 26 to 17. Meanwhile, Phillips’ first hit, “Home,” jumps 38 to 33 on Rock Digital Songs, where it is in its 95th week on the chart. That means in 10 weeks, “Home” will begin its third year on this tally. The follow-up to “Home,” “Gone, Gone, Gone,” is also still ranked on this survey, dipping 42 to 44 in its 64th week.
ANOTHER POLE POSITION: Just one week after Scotty McCreery‘s single “See You Tonight” debuted at No. 1 on Hot Country Songs Recurrents, the song opens in pole position on Country Recurrent Airplay. That gives the season 10 champ a 13th Billboard No. 1, breaking a tie with fellow Raleigh, North Carolina finalist Clay Aiken, who has 12 No. 1s. McCreery is now the sole occupier of ninth place among Idols with the most chart-topping titles.
BITS AND PIECES: Mandisa‘s Overcomer returns to the top 10 on Top Christian Albums, with a rebound of 12 to 10 in its 30th week… On that same chart, Colton Dixon‘s A Messenger finds new energy, cruising from 26 to 19 in its 55th week… Carrie Underwood‘s Blown Away is also rising again, moving 16 to 12 on Top Country Catalog Albums. Further down that chart, her first album, Some Hearts, re-enters at No. 25, enjoying its 325th week on the list. Some Hearts was released in 2005… Guy Sebastian‘s “Like a Drum” breaks into the top 20 on the Club Play chart, where it climbs from 22 to 20… Daughtry’s “Waiting for Superman” is another rebounder, inching up from 18 to 17 on Adult Contemporary. So far, the single’s peak position is No 15… Candice Glover’s “Cried” reaches a new peak position on Adult R&B as it advances from 18 to 16…Also on Adult R&B, Ruben Studdard‘s “Love, Love, Love” holds at No. 25.
