ABC added four drama pilots to its roster late Friday, picking up projects from Tom Donaghy, Chris Keyser, Richard LaGravanese and Stephanie Savage.
Agatha, from The Whole Truth‘s Donaghy, is a character-driven procedural and centers on a former convict-turned-big-city criminologist who is brought in to help local police crack a case involving a perplexing disappearance. The chief detective she’s been hired to help is her father — and they haven’t spoken in 15 years. Donaghy will pen the script and executive produce the ABC Studios entry alongside The Mark Gordon Co. and Michael McDonald. It marks Gordon’s third pilot order so far this season, joining Clementine and NBC’s newly ordered comedy Fifth Wheel, and serves as McDonald’s first pilot since exiting as head of drama for ABC Studios.
Warriors hails from Keyser, who will pen the script and executive produce the ABC Studios drama alongside Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman‘s Mandeville. The drama follows the best and brightest of active duty military doctors and nurses as they practice trailblazing medicine on critically wounded warriors returning home from Afghanistan, on military families and veterans, as well as administering to Washington’s government elite. Original writer Steve Baigelman will remain on board. The project was one of five dramas Mandeville was developing for ABC.
STORY: TV Pilots 2014: The Complete Guide
The untitled LaGravanese (P.S. I Love You, Beautiful Creatures) is set in New York City and revolves around the love and rivalry between two equally matched, powerful socialites who play out their obsessive attraction and seduction of each other through their manipulation of others. LaGravanese will pen the script and executive produce the ABC Studios drama alongside Erwin Stoff, Ilene Staple and Wren Arthur.
Astronaut Wives Club hails from Fake Empire‘s Savage, who will pen the script and executive produce the ABC Studios vehicle via the banner she runs with Josh Schwartz and Michael London‘s Groundswell. Fake Empire president of TV Len Goldstein and Schwartz will exec produce. The 1960s-set drama tells the real story of the women who stood beside some of the biggest heroes in American history during the height of the space race. The drama marks the first pilot Savage has written since she co-created Gossip Girl with Schwartz. The project is based on Lily Koppel best-selling novel that was published last summer. The drama was one of several sales for Fake Empire this past season and its first pilot order of the season via the banner’s new overall deal at ABC Studios.
For ABC, this brings the Disney-owned network’s drama pilot orders to 11, plus two straight-to-series orders for hourlong shows from American Hustle‘s David O. Russell and a remake of Secrets & Lies.
