Since launching back in July 2012, digital comics publisher Monkeybrain Comics has gone from strength to strength with critically acclaim for series such as Edison Rex and Amelia Cole translating into multiple Eisner Award nominations (and a win, for Best Digital Comic) for Paul Tobin and Colleen Coover‘s Bandette. Later this month, it’ll break new ground with the release of its first digital collected edition — an anthology of work by Brazilian creators entitled Inkshot.
Monkeybrain co-founder Chris Roberson explained that Inkshot came to the publisher via creator Dan Goldman, who had recently stayed in Brazil. “He was the one who first introduced [Inkshot editor] Hector Lima to us,” Roberson writes in the announcement of the title. “When Hector told us that he was looking for a home for an anthology of stories by Brazilian comics creators, we were already intrigued, but when I read the first few stories that he sent over, and saw the quality on offer, I knew that we had to add it to the Monkeybrain lineup.”

Previously, Monkeybrain titles have trended towards shorter releases for a 99 cents to $1.99 pricepoint, but Inkshot is something considerably more substantial: 268 pages for $8.99. According to Lima, the 40 stories in the anthology are “a rich and varied panorama of styles and genres, showing that the ‘country of the future’ is an erupting creative volcano,” with many of the creators involved making their American debut with the anthology.
Inkshot will be released on September 18 on the ComiXology platform.
