AOL has hired Bob Lord to be the chief executive of its digital ad network, AOL Networks, the company said in a Friday statement. The internet brand company has also struck an advertising partnership with Lord’s previous employer, Publicis Groupe.
Lord will report to AOL CEO Tim Armstrong in New York and will start Aug. 1. He will replace exec Ned Brody, who resigned as CEO of the network in April. The AOL Network launched in February with a goal to “simplify digital advertising at scale,” Brody stated at the time.

Lord has served as CEO of Publicis Groupe’s Digital Technologies Division and was the Global CEO of Razorfish, where he held various positions since joining the company in 2000.
“Bob is clearly one of the most impressive executives in our industry,” said Armstrong in a statement. “He’s been a digital marketing and technology leader for nearly two decades and has worked with some of the world’s most renowned agencies and brands throughout his career. He has a proven track record of driving innovation within an organization.”
In addition, AOL announced an advertising partnership with Publicis Groupe, titled PAL, which Lord will oversee along with three Publicis Groupe executives.
“In my position at Razorfish, I got a front row look at the competitive advantage of the AOL Network technology and the progress the business has made over the past couple of years,” Lord stated. “I also see an opportunity to take it to the next level delivering effective premium solutions to our publisher and advertiser partners.”
