SACRAMENTO–

Police have arrested a Davis woman in connection to the death of her 5-year-old daughter, Sacramento Police announced Thursday night.

The woman has been identified as 29-year-old Davis resident Aquelin Talamantes. She has been charged with murder.

According to a release from the Sacramento Police Department, around 2:35 p.m. officers showed up to an apartment complex near Pocket Road and W. Shore Drive to check up on the welfare of the girl. Family members of Talamantes called police after getting more and more concerned about the girl’s condition after the woman had apparently driven to Sacramento without the 5-year-old.

Officers at the scene talked to Talamantes and the 5-year-old was soon found in the trunk of her car.

The girl was found to be unresponsive and both the officers and bystanders started CPR. The girl was soon rushed to the hospital but was later pronounced dead.

“It is very sad. This is a very family oriented area.  It is just very sad know this happened right where you live,” said Rebecca Swell, a neighbor.

Police are now searching Talamantes’ home in Davis along Glide Drive.

Neighbors have told FOX40 that a fight between the girl’s mother and a man preceded the child being put in the trunk.

The girl was originally identified as being 4-years-old, but police have since revised their number.
