Duplicate notifications on iOS 7 iPhone 5S - lock screen AND banner

Hi everyone

Hopefully someone can replicate this!

Since upgrading to the iPhone 5S, some of my notifications (e.g. Mail, Foursquare) will appear as nomal in the lock screen... but the most recent one(s) will sometimes then ALSO appear as a banner, once I unlock my device.

Is anyone else noticing this behaviour?

A few thoughts I've had on this so far:

- It's only happened so far when I use TouchID to unlock the phone - therefore, could iOS be assuming that (if the TouchID unlocked the phone REALLY quickly), that I may not have seen it, and so sends me a banner too?

- With the above in mind, I thought that perhaps the M7 chip was showing me duplicates if I hadn't used my phone for a while (incase I'd missed it), but if I wake the homescreen first to scroll though my notifications and THEN use TouchID to unlock it, the notification will sometimes still appear as a banner.

- I don't know if this happens on password entry too, as I will always be using TouchID moving forward

- This problem may not be unique to the 5S, especially if TouchID is not part of the cause

- It could just be a bug.

Anyone else?

Thanks

Mike

@c15co: that seems to be a different issue. Make sure that you don't have your email account configured twice in your mail app. And even if not: try to delete and re-add the account.

As far as the other issue is concerned: I have found a fix. I have noticed that it started happening since I changed my device passcode from a numeric PIN to an alphanumeric one. I have changed it back to numeric PIN and magically the problem disappeared.

Now I changed it back again to an alphanumeric passcode, and it still didn't re-appear.

Hope this helps.

I've also been having this issue. I'm talking to Apple about it right now and they don't seem to have a fix for it. I've even tried the old Settings > Notification Center > Messages > Repeat Alerts > Never

That didn't even work and it's always been set to never repeat alerts. This is happening to me for iMessages. What will happen is, if I get two messages or more showing on the lock screen, either by unlocking my phone with a passcode or Touch ID, once I unlock the phone a banner of the most recent message received will show up at the top. It only happens if I receive more than one iMessage. If it's a singular iMessage or text message, it doesn't appear to happen. Apple wasn't able to help me out with anything. I tried a hard reset and that didn't work whatsoever. All of my settings are the same on my iPhone 5 running 7.0.4 that I was using only a few days ago and ever since using the iPhone 5s did this problem start happening. It may have something to do with having Touch ID enabled, but who knows.

Also, I am running 7.0.4 on this iPhone 5s as well, so for those of you saying there should have been a fix in it, there wasn't. If anyone is able to shed light on this, definitely let us know.

I can confirm that this issue is only happening while Touch ID and a passcode are enabled. I turned off the use of a passcode which in turn turns off Touch ID and the banner notification didn't occur when unlocking my phone after receiving multipe iMessages. I really hope Apple fixes this in the 7.1 release because it is quite annoying. A suggestion would be to turn off banner notifications, but if I'm in another app, it's nice to know I'm receiving a new message and to see who it is from along with a preview. Like I said before, if others can confirm this EXACT issue please reply. Especially if it's iMessage/text message related.

From iphonefaq.org:

How do I turn off repeat message alerts on iPhone?

Default settings on the iPhone with iOS 5 or iOS 6 installed are set up so that when an incoming text or MMS message arrives, the device reminds you with two alerts. This repeated alert every 2 minutes can make sure you know a message came in, or it can be really annoying as you think the iPhone is receiving multiple SMS alerts in a row.

To switch off these reminder alerts, follow these steps:

1. Navigate to Settings -> Notifications -> Messages
2. Scroll to the bottom of the page and tap Repeat Alert
3. Select how many times you want to be reminded of each text message

Setting this to Never will ensure that your iPhone only plays the alert tone once for each message received.

Hi Renniz

Thanks for your post, but I'm not entirely sure that you've read & fully understood the problem that we are describing.

Your post related to Message alerts in iOS 5 and 6, plus iOS 7 but certainly not to Touch ID and the issue of duplicate notifications due to the banner bug.

Although your post is factually accurate I'm afraid it's totally irrelevant to this thread.
