In the move to Saturday this year, the 2013 Screen Actors Guild Awards saw an 11 percent drop in viewership on the Turner nets. The Jan. 18 simulcast on TNT and TBS took 4.6 million viewers during the night — down 600,000 viewers from the most recent kudos.
Last year’s SAG Awards, which took place later in January, grossed 5.2 million viewers across TNT and TBS telecasts. Among adults 18-49, the show drew 1.6 million viewers. It skewed slightly older, with 1.8 million adults 25-54.
Staging the awards on Saturday this year was bound to see a drop in viewership, but the alternative of airing this past Sunday would have seen unfortunate competition in Fox’s coverage of the NFC championship game.
Turner, which first started airing the SAG Awards on TNT in 1998 before eventually simulcasting on TBS in 2007, renewed its deal with the acting kudos in 2013 with a three-year deal.
