Guitar Center is shining a spotlight on music with its award-winning series Guitar Center Sessions. Combining an interview portion with performances, the show is now in its seventh season and boasts such diverse bookings as metal act Korn, singer Gavin DeGraw and indie darlings Ben Folds Five.
The latest to sit down with host Nic Harcourt: legendary rocker Joan Jett, who filmed her episode at the Guitar Center store on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood.

A clip from the show finds Jett reflecting on the demise of The Runaways, the band she co-founded with Sandy West in 1975. The all-girl five-piece outfit was pioneering in its punk rock sound and attitude. Now, Jett notes, “They’ve got a regimented thing; girls can’t play rock ‘n’ roll.”
Jett delves deeper into the raw emotions still resonating decades after the band’s breakup, which she calls “devastating.” She reveals that following the last Runaways performance on New Year’s Eve 1978, she began partying and drinking to excess. “I was in bad shape,” says Jett.
Watch a portion of the interview below and tune in for the full performance on Dec. 6 at 9 p.m. on DirecTV‘s Audience Network.
