TORONTO — Rob Ford thought he was going on the air to talk NFL point spreads.
But the Toronto mayor instead told a U.S. sports radio station Thursday that allegations he tried to buy his infamous crack cocaine video are an “outright lie.”

Two producers of the Washington, D.C., radio show Sports Junkies on 106.7 The Fan emailed Toronto City Hall three weeks ago asking the embattled mayor to come on the show and talk about football.
That turned into a surprise on-air appearance Thursday where Ford was questioned about allegations that an envoy offered $5,000 and a car to Somalian drug dealers that were selling the damaging video.
“No. 1, it’s an outright lie. No. 2, you can talk to my lawyer about it,” Ford told the hosts of the radio show Thursday morning.
The Toronto mayor then insisted he was on the air to talk about football and give his picks for this weekend’s NFL games.
After talking football, Ford invited the U.S. radio hosts to air their show from Toronto City Hall.

“You can broadcast from my office anytime you want,” the mayor, who has time on his hands after being clipped of his political powers due to his Crackergate scandal, said.
After Ford signed off, the show’s co-host Eric Bickel was triumphant over a successful publicity stunt.
“He was a good sport. We had him on for 15 minutes. The fact that he actually called us is pretty astonishing,” Bickel said.
