20th Century Fox TV has upped two of its programming execs.
Carolyn Cassidy and Steven Sicherman have been promoted to senior vp comedy development and current programming, respectively.
“Carolyn is a dedicated, smart, creative executive with a great sense of the business and where it is going,” said 20th TV head of comedy Jonathan Davis, to whom she reports. “She really fights for the projects she believes in, and she is known for not only attracting the best writers, but working with them in a way where they feel not only protected, but inspired.”
Added the studio’s head of current, Jeffrey Glaser, of Sicherman: “Steve is as good a current executive as there is in this business and has more than earned this promotion. He has fantastic instincts and is beloved both inside our company and by all the producers with whom he works, because they know that at the end of the day, his only goal is to make the material better. He’s also hilarious.”
Cassidy joined 20th TV in the summer of 2009 as a vp comedy series. In her tenure with the studio, she has shepherded the development of Fox’s New Girl, ABC’s Last Man Standing and CBS’ new entry The Crazy Ones. She also oversees a roster of producers, writers and directors for the studio, including The Chernin Co., 21 Laps/Adelstein, Jake Kasdan, Jenny Bicks, Cindy Chupack, Kay Cannon, Corrigan & Walsh and Yuspa & Goldsmith.
Thus far this development season, her roster of potential new series includes Chupack’s Fox pilot order for The Longest Date, with Jake Kasdan attached to direct. Her put pilots include Goldstein & Daly’s Punching Out at CBS with Chernin, Nahnatchka Khan’s Fresh Off the Boat at ABC with Kasdan and a multicamera project at ABC from Kevin Hench and Cristela Alonso via 21 Laps.
Cassidy started her career as a current exec at NBC, where she worked on series such as Will & Grace, The Office and Ed. She also served as a comedy development executive at ABC Studios, where she helped develop Samantha Who? along with other cable and broadcast series.
For his part, Sicherman has been at 20th since September 2001, when he began as a director of comedy series for the studio. In that time, he has worked on shows including CBS’ How I Met Your Mother, FX’S American Horror Story, Fox and Netflix’s Arrested Development, Fox’s Glee and ABC’s Last Man Standing. Additionally, he is now shepherding the studio’s freshmen entries Dads on Fox and Friends With Better Lives on CBS.
Prior to 20th, Sicherman was a director of series development at MTV Productions and, earlier, for the Columbia TriStar Television-based Paul Stupin Productions, where he was involved in developing projects such as Dawson’s Creek.
