Sony Pictures Classics has acquired worldwide rights to road trip comedy Land Ho.
Directed by Martha Stephens and Aaron Katz, the film follows two retirees who set off to Iceland in an attempt to reclaim their youth through Reykjavik nightclubs, spars and campsites. Sony Pictures Classics plans to release the film later this year.
Starring Paul Eenhoorn (This Is Martin Bonner) and newcomer Earl Lynn Nelson, Land Ho premiered Dec. 19 at Sundance.
Mynette Louie, Sara Murphy and Christina Jennings are producers, with David Gordon Green, Julie Parker Benello, Dan Cogan, Geralyn White Dreyfous and Wendy Ettinger of Gamechanger as executive producers. It is the first movie to be financed by Gamechanger, which launched last fall to finance films directed or co-directed by women.
The deal was negotiated by Andrew Herwitz, president of The Film Sales Company, and Andre Des Rochers of Gray Krauss, on behalf of the filmmakers.
