This year marks the 20th anniversary of Nas’ groundbreaking debut album Illmatic, which Vibe editor-in-chief Jermaine Hall describes in a statement as “arguably hip-hop’s most flawless piece of work. Nas’ ability to clearly capture his surroundings in song is a special talent.”
Presented in partnership with Malibu Red for the second year, Vibe’s Impact Awards salute entertainers whose achievements have changed pop culture.
Last year’s inaugural gala, held at the Sunset Tower in West Hollywood, celebrated Vibe’s 20th anniversary and the career of honoree Mary J. Blige. Guests paying tribute to Blige included Sean “Diddy” Combs, Queen Latifah, Anita Baker, SWV, Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, Big Sean and industry executive Andre Harrell.
