TRUCKEE-

The plane that crashed Monday morning near Truckee ended up in some very rough terrain, posing a challenge to search and rescue crews.

“I saw the fuselage of the aircraft, pretty much, that appeared to be intact from our vantage point,” CHP pilot Greg Norrgard said.

Norrgard is the pilot who first spotted the downed personal jet.

“The wings had been ripped off and it was kind of in between some trees, so it was in a really difficult location,” he said.

Two people were in the plane. Darla Farnell, 55, was pronounced dead at the scene. Ray Farnell, 70, was taken to the hospital in critical condition,

Investigators say the plane had initially tried to make a landing at Tahoe-Truckee Airport, but failed, and was coming around for another attempt when it went down.
