Bruce Hoy, an actor, dancer and choreographer who worked on such Hollywood musicals as Funny Face, Finian’s Rainbow and The Music Man, died Friday in Los Angeles. He was 81.
Hoy’s wife, fellow dancer Larri Thomas, died in October, also at age 81. They met while filming The Music Man (1962), starring Robert Preston and Shirley Jones, and married a year later.
Hoy danced and served as the assistant choreographer on Stanley Donen‘s Funny Face (1957), starring Astaire, Audrey Hepburn and Kay Thompson, and appeared as a sharecropper in Francis Ford Coppola‘s Finian’s Rainbow (1968) with Astaire (in his last major movie musical) and Petula Clark.
He also worked on Bye Bye Birdie (1963) starring Dick Van Dyke and Elvis Presley‘s Live a Little, Love a Little (1968).
Hoy danced in Cole Porter‘s Silk Stockings, which opened on Broadway in 1955.
Survivors include daughters Amy and Elizabeth. A celebration of the lives of Hoy and Thomas will take place at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 6, at Sportsmen’s Lodge in Studio City.
