A man was run over by a vehicle and killed while lying inside a tent near the Sutter Bypass, the California Highway Patrol reported Friday.
The deceased was identified by the Sutter County Coroner's Office as Robert Keith Ward, 32.
CHP officers were called to the scene at Franklin Road west of Acacia Avenue at 9:28 a.m. Thursday, where they learned Kristin Ward, 29, was the driver and a 9-year-old boy was a passenger in a 2004 Ford Mustang.
The vehicle reportedly lunged over a tent in which Ward was lying. Ward succumbed to his injuries at the scene, according to the CHP.
No other injuries were reported.
Drugs and alcohol do not appear to have been a factor in the collision, the CHP said.
The CHP investigation into the death is ongoing. Any witnesses to the collision are asked to call the Yuba-Sutter CHP office at 674-5141.
