CBS’ Battle Creek drama series has added a two-time Oscar nominee to its ranks.
Janet McTeer has been tapped to co-star in the detective drama created by Breaking Bad‘s Vince Gilligan, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Based on a 2002 spec, the drama centers on Ross, a detective, and Milton, an FBI agent — two men with very different worldviews who are teamed up. Together, they must answer the question: Is cynicism, guile and deception enough to clean up the semi-mean streets of Battle Creek, Mich., in the face of a complete lack of resources? Or is the exact opposite — it takes naivete, trust and a boatload of resources — actually true?
McTeer will play Commander Guziewicz, Ross’ superior and the commander of the Battle Creek Police Department, who doesn’t understand why he always wants to cut through the crap. The character is tough but soft with a sweet sense of humor. Polite, patient and smart, she’s the boss but treats her cops with respect and believes in observing the social niceties before delivering bad news.

Gilligan penned the initial script with the Breaking Bad alum and House‘s David Shore is set to serve as showrunner. The duo will both executive produce the Sony Pictures Television and CBS Television Studios drama alongside Breaking Bad‘s Mark Johnson. Kal Penn co-stars as Ross’ partner.
For McTeer, Battle Creek marks her latest small-screen role; recent credits include Starz’s The White Queen, Parade’s End, Damages and Sense & Sensibility. On the big screen, McTeer has earned two Oscar nominations, one for her work in Albert Nobbs and the other for Tumbleweeds. She’s repped by Curtis Brown Group and The Schiff Co.
